Sydney experiences hot summers, cooler winters, and occasional water restrictions or drought conditions.

Soft Leaf Buffaloes (Sapphire, Palmetto, Matilda), these buffalo varieties handle Sydney's shady yards well with Sapphire and Palmetto tolerating up to 60-70% shade, that maintains good winter colour, and recovers quickly from wear.

Empire Zoysia is a highly drought tolerant, needs less mowing, adapts well to Sydney's clay and sandy soils, and handles both summer heat and cooler temperatures.
